DP thinks son might have Tourettes

I don't know if this is an over-reaction on his part but my DP thinks my son may have tourettes Syndrome.

Basically he's 7 (nearly 8) and for the past few months he has been saying the word "crap" alot, not in conversation, just the one word and it seems to come out of nowhere and sometimes it doesnt make any sense.

For instance he'll be sat playing on the PC, Ill walk in and put some clothes on the bed and he'll look and say "crap" and when I ask why he said it he laughs and says he doesn't know or "I didn't mean to". He says it quite alot to things that don't make sense, he'll just be sat watching TV and he'll say it for instance but he always says he didn't mean to say it or he doesnt know why he said it.

We've never made an issue out of it so its not as if he's playing on it...so is it just an average 7 year old playing up or something else?

Hmm - given what you have just said about your dp on another thread (sorry, had no advice to post), I'm wondering whether or not to take it with a big pinch of salt.

That said, I was good friends with a girl when I was a child, who had Tourettes syndrome. It manifested itself at around this age (at first she used to say "uh" all the time). She also blinked a lot (kind of screwing her eyes up) and it went on from there.

If you have concerns about his behaviour, then make a judgement yourself on whether there is anything to worry about and whether to take it further or not. Had you noticed it yourself before dp pointed it out? Have other people noticed?

HTH.
