Anyone had housemaid's knee? Do you have any tips on helping it heal? Today I have a swollen knee and it's difficult to bend and go up & down stairs. I'll see my gp next week....but I would welcome any advice. Best wishes xxx

this link has an explanation of what housemaids knee is.

i had this ages ago after banging my knee on a cupboard door. i happened to show the doc when he was seeing one of the kids for tonsillitis and he confirmed it was bursitis but that was it.

18 months later when it was annoying me, i went back to him and he said, oh you should have come sooner, i may have been able to drain it... you need surgery now!

i had private cover at the time so went to a surgeon cos orthopedic wait time is ages. he said, yes, op was needed and i wanted to wait for a few months until after the summer. well, during that summer, after a drink or 2, i fell on my knee (as one does) and heard it go splat and hey presto, all cured!! no pain or nuffin! so i didnt need the op afterall.

i wouldnt recommend that as a cure, mind you, but try some of the suggestions on that web site.

best wishes
