I've had this for a week now, will try to go to G.P tomorrow, but does anyone know of a good medicine to buy over the counter , better than paracetamol?

Paramol is a good pain reliever and I think the strongest you can buy OTC. Also, if your stomach can cope, alternating a paracetamol-based tablet with ibuprofen or even soluble aspirin can help. Hope the doctor can help. The Migraine Association can help with all sorts of headache, not just migraine. Hth.

I find paracetamol + codeine tablets work for me

Do you think it might be a tension headache? Is it pounding? I use Syndol which you can get over the counter. Give it 20 mins and you'll feel the effect but if you're taking it for the first time just take one and see how you go.

syndol was recommended to me for tension headaches. Haven't tried it yet and don't know what is in it but you could check it out.

Whizzz · 04/02/2007 17:17

I used to take Syndol but found that Boots Tension headache tablets had the same ingredients for a cheper price (& they worked !). Think they are just paracetamol & codeine

Surfermum · 04/02/2007 19:32

Kbear the ingredients are 450mg Paracetamol, 10mg Codeine Phosphate, 30mg Caffeine, 5mg Doxylamine Succinate, colours E104, E110 and Yellow FA4149.

I'm going to check out the Boots ones. Thanks Whizzz .

Syndol work for me but I take just one and even then, need to go straight to bed and sleep as they make me so drowsy. Headache usually gone by the time I wake up though. Also, try upping your water consumption - I find if I let myself get a bit dehydrated on one day, then I'm headachy for several days afterwards.
