I'd really like to go swimming, but some mothers have said I would be better waiting until dd Has had his MMR Jab? Is this true?

i have not heard that one I was told it's best to ait until after the first thre jabs ( cn 't remeber what they are for think last one is 4mths) check with HV

katierocket · 08/06/2004 21:17

what??!

I took DS swimming from 4 months (baby swim classes) and know lots of other people who did the same. never heard that before, sure it's rubbish.

Piffleoffagus · 08/06/2004 21:18

yes its a myth, My dd is not ever having it and she has swum since birth, I ignored everything about the jabs except keeping her out after polio (live vaccine)

Hulababy · 09/06/2004 10:30

I have never heard that one either. I have heard the waiting until the first 3 jabs, but that's it. I took DD swimming from 4 months and there were babies even younger at our classes.

I was just going to say like Piffleoffagus - what about all those who decide not to have the MMR?!! It must be nonsense

SoupDragon · 09/06/2004 10:53

It's nonsense (IMHO). Surely you're no more likely to catch measles, mumps or rubella at a swimming pool than you are at a toddler group. Maybe you should keep your child away from those (and all other human contact) until they've had MMR too.

A myth. You can go after the first of the trible jabs at 8 weeks, I did that with all of mine.
