Only over the counter medicine which touched my infected roots (until the antibiotics kicked in) was Solpadeine

LIZS · 30/01/2007 20:28

Poor you , btdt and just had the root surgically drained as well. Nurofen helped, perhaps the stronger one.

Hot salt water rinses (teaspoon of salt in a cup of boiling water allow it to dissolve and cool slightly so you don't scald yourself then rinse thoroughly with liquid in affected area after every meal and just before you go to bed). Continue with antibiotics (they will do the trick eventually). Also take paracetamol, then 2 hours later plain ibufrofen (check the label it doesn't contain anything else), then 2 hours after that paracetamol etc etc . This enables you to have a higher (safe) level of pain relief going on. HTH

You really have my sympathy... I have just been through hell for weeks with two infected teeth/roots and a huge swelling on the side of my face. Now have had to have both teeth out and bridges fitted. I did have problems sleeping.

If you are on penicillin... and they are three in a day.. even though you possibly only got the tablets today, make sure you do what is called 'doubling up' and take the three tablets just spaced over a shorter time today, if that makes sense. That allows the antibiotics/penicillin to kick in as quick as possible. I have a friend who is a pharmacist and that is what she recommends so there is no danger with it.

It all depends on what sort of painkillers you have. I found ibuprofen worked best but I also had prescription painkillers which I took in conjunction with ibuprofen. I would honestly suggest taking the painkillers as late as you can manage and going to bed quite late in the hope you might sleep right through the night. Good luck with it.... it is very close to my heart at the moment cos of my problems!

Sorry took myself to bed after posting, had a good kip, SEA the interview was cool thankyou for asking, they seemed like a lovely bunch of people, very comfortable interview, i think the only thing that lets it down for me is the travel, 50mins driving on a good day and only a nine month contract , IF they offer me the post, i shall be in a dilema. I need to do my sums

Toothache is marginally better this morning, definately turned the pain corner
