Is it thrush or worms?

My dd1 (6) has had a cold and a cough for a week. She's had a nippy bottom which is normal for her when she gets a bit ill.

Tonight though its really, really bothering her. I can't decide if its thrush, or could it be worms?

Its red all over her back and front bottom. She can't tell me if its itchy or sore, she says both. There doesn't seem to be a visible discharge.......

Can you take a peek when she's asleep? If it's worms you should see them.

I had a peek just now when she was up (again). She had just been for a wee and had tiny bits of tissue on her bottom (I think she'd rubbed it hard with the tissue). There were also tiny, tiny, white flecks which I presumed were tissue.......is that what the worms look like?

yes - you really need to REALLY look in a darkened room...like....REALLY look!

So, tiny little flecks of white that don't appear to move....thats them?

Lastly, what in the world can I do for her at this time of night? I smeared on some thrush cream (scrubbing my hands in hot water afterwards y'understand) and gave her calpol........

I think worms would be moving.

Ones I have seen were moving. They are obvious worms although not like garden ones. Eeeek!

You need something from the doctor; it's name excapes me but the whole family have a dose and then two week's later DD gas a second dose.

Don't stress; worms very very common in the u/10s, much more so than people think.

worms look like bits of white cotton that wriggle GROSS!

you can get a little tablet from the pharmacy still I think. Not unpleasant. I tell mine they are a special vitamin.

I looked long, close and hard. I'm sure they were lying very still or else they were tissue. Mmmn.......

Thanks girls. I might need to pop to the doctor for a final diagnosis as I can't be sure what the hell it is. Her poos are a dodgy colour and consistency too so I can't even clingfilm the loo for closer inspection.

My daughter has the same symptoms...we,ve had worms in the family in the past -- you need to look in their bottom in the dark using a torch ..the worms will move ..I think it sounds more like trush thing..needs a Drs visit

but they will disturb her bowels and she will have tummy ache intermittantly and you will see her itching her bum!

Thanks Anisse. The whole area is red and itchy, back and front, so I'm finding it hard to tell. I've popped on some thrush cream tonight and we're off to the docs in the morning......

My friend Janet does colonic irrigation and let me tell you she has some belting stories about worms!!! Put me off sushi for life!

you won't necessarily see worms if she has them. when dd1 bedwets after being dry for ages, i usually worm her anyway just to be sure

Manuka, just curious why sushi?

Tbh I'd just treat for both, won't do her any harm.
