contact dermatitis on ring fingers

In the last few months, I have started getting really itchy, dry, cracked skin under my wedding/engagement rings and on my other hand where I where a ring.

The rings on one hand are platinum and the other is white gold.
I have worn the same rings for years and years.
I haven't started using any new soaps pr cleaning products. Any one got any ideas?

Also, how to relieve the pain and prevent it returning once it clears?

Mine did this for a time but I deduced it was due to washing up liquid - ie not drying properly under where your rings are. SOme products you can use for ages & then csn use them again & get a reaction as it can build up with time

Same here. I posted on this before. Was advised to wash/soak rings in all sorts, tequlia, vodka etc. I did it all... but to no avail. Found the problem was down to my eternity ring (muck seems to collect under the stones) which even when clean causes my finger to be raw after one night of wearing it. I've had to stop wearing it.

Even my wedding and engagement rings seem to leave a dark dirty smudge on my finger some days as if they are costume jewellery.. they are 18 carat gold so don't know what the problem is and as you say, it's happened quite suddenly. have been married 11 years and it's rarely happened before.

Sorry to be no help.

Sorry for the bad english !! I was trying to say that the intolerance to the product can gradually build up over time

i had this prob just after i got married mine is just a gold band but it drove me mad ..,at one point i was thinking it was a bad omen and all that

went to the docs and she just said to put my sons hydrocortizone cream for his eczema on it and it's don ethe trick hardly ever flares up now

Often more to do with what collects under the rings. Unusual to be allergic to any precious metal, I believe.

Try to rinse under the rings every time you wash your hands/ shower so soap doesn't collect. Clean under any stones with a toothbrush once a week. Keeps the stones nice and sparkly too.

have huntd out some emolient and hydrocortisone used for ds2's eczema
will give that a try
if I remember rightly, my mum started getting this kind of thing in her early thirties
she was a school cleaner, however, so probably had something to do with all the chemicals too
