Does anyone know what these spots are?

My ds (2.10) has about 6 or 7 spots on the side of his trunk (over ribcage) which he constantly scratches and picks. They look similar to chicken pox spots but he has had chicken pox and he is not poorly. He used to suffer from excema but that is gone now thanks to working out allergies. On a visit to the hospital recently (unrelated) the doctor took a quick look at them and didn't know what they were. They are scabbed now and he has had them for about four months. They don't look red, inflamed, no puss just plain ordinaery spots. Any ideas??????

Thanks

Could it be a reaction to something?

Did you change washing powder at about the time they appeared?

Is there a label/tag inside one of his tops that is causing irritation?

molluscum?

BernieBear · 29/01/2007 17:12

AHA! Yes, thanks Foxtrot. Just did a search and saw a few pictures. That would be it. Never heard of it before. Seems they will clear up on their own.

Flutterbee, it was something I too had been wondering, but am so careful about washing powders and things as he was so bad with ezcema for the first year of his life I am still very paranoid about these things.

Pretty sure it is Foxtrot's diagnosis.

thanks ladies

BB do a search on molluscum on mumsnet, you'll find several threads about it. It's horrid, sometimes the spots 'ripen' and go pussey.

I've heard of this and seen it quite a few times. I think they're pretty harmless but take a while to go away.
