My 8 month old has had eczema since he was 3 weeks old even though just breastfeeding then. Rapidly covered him from head to toe and very itchy all over. Even though we didn't want to use steroids we ended up having to as he was so itchy and clearing suffering. However 5 months on we're still using hydrocortisone every day (under supervision of dermatologist) and to me it doesn't seem to be getting any better. At times it will die down for a day or two but then will flare up again even though we're still usign the steroids. Also "wet wrapped" with steroids for two months but this didn't get it under control either.
Have been dairy free for 5 months and spent a fortune on different alternative treatments including neem, dead sea, camomile, vitamin D, GLA, lacto bacillius and probably others too that I've forgotten about.
Also under homeopathic hospital for last 4 months but although I really, really want this to work am not seeing results yet and where we are not using steroids (legs) are so itchy that I'm tempted to go back to them.
Had blood tests for allergies which were all negative but since then ds has had allergic reaction to egg (face and lips swelling up). He also hasn't been gaining much weight. Dropped from 91st centile at birth to 2nd centile a few weeks ago. He is picking up now but that's because dietician has given us food supplement to add calories to all his food.
Can anybody help? Hospital have said that they're puzzled about why he's not responding to treatment and have suggested that next course of action is hospitalisation or stronger steroids that will be systemic.
Thank you, thank you , thank you - if you've got any ideas at all.
