Very sore red patches on toes after swimming ... ?

My ds (10) was in tears tonight because it was so painful to put on his shoes. He went to a swimming party yesterday and was in the pool for hours and hours and when he came home he complained that he had hurt his feet. He has round red patches (about the size of a 10p piece) on the underside of his big toes. They're not quite blisters, they don't seem to have any fluid in them.

Any ideas? I'll have to take him to the doc's in the morning if they're no better as he can't put shoes on!

Sounds like the beginnings of normal blisters to me. Maybe he was pushing off the wall or bottom of the pool in the same way over and over...the kind of things kids do. I'd give it a day or so before going to the gp.
