Lost sense of smell

I've completely lost my sense of smell and wondered if this had happened to anyone else and if so, did it come back?

Had a cold about 3 weeks ago but it's cleared up (just a few days of cough, snotty nose etc) but I have no sense of smell at all.

I'm not sure if it's something I should go to the GP about or just wait.

Yes, this is something your GP would be interested in. Go and get it checked out, there is a (tiny tiny) chance it's a sign of something more serious so it would be good for them to rule stuff out.

I had this a long time ago (I'm old ), I had some sort of viral infection and then completely lost my sense of smell and with it my sense of taste. 24 years later I removed caffeine, sugar, dairy and gluten from my diet and got my sense of smell back. I have no idea what happened, which of these was causing the problem but thought I'd mention it just in case.

Definitely see your gp first but if nothing helps give it a try. I now have introduced those things back to my diet slowly and haven't lost my sense of smell again but I definitely have noticed that a lot of dairy affects my airways, making me snuffly/bunged up, so maybe it was something to do with that.
