Champneys eye gel - why does it sting?

I've been using this now for a couple of weeks and notice that once I put it on I feel a stinging sensation - it does stop after a bit. I just wondered if anyone has any idea why???

I think if something stings .. especially around eye area .. its a bloody good reason not to use it
