Straining Baby

Hello All

My ds is 8 weeks old and he strains and grunts till he's bright red in the face. Often he does it when he's asleep (and it doesn't seem to wake him up), he's especially vocal in his sleep between 4am and 8am. Sometimes it makes him cry and other times it doesn't seem to bother him. Sometimes it seems to be pre-bowel movement and other times it's unrelated. But he does this all day long. And he's been doing it since he was 3 weeks old.

He's bottle fed, but manages at least one soft poo per day so I'm pretty sure it's not constipation. The hv says "some babies do that", which is a stupid thing to say as I can see that some babies do that - my baby does that!

I'm wondering if there are any of you with experience of your lo actually growing out of this? Should I be pressurising the GP to do tests for allergies? Should we change the brand of milk (currently he's on Aptamil)?

Any help or advice is appreciated, we'll never work out sleeping through the night if this keeps up and of course it's horrible to watch.

I'm not so much trying to establish a routine as just desperately looking forward to a lovely long sleep!

I'm really glad to hear from someone who's baby grew out of it though. And it's good that I can't keep blaming my lack of bf skills.

Thank you!
