Very very bad IBD when to seek further medical help?

have had this for many years due to bowel damage.

normally am a 'go go' person.

Stopped for two days, until this afternoon. Have been and still am in extreme pain to the point of throwing up with it.
bent over hobbling around.

Last year things got so bad I ended up screaming, rolling on floor in extreme pain. Had injection of bocscopan and things settled down again.

have a feeling things are going to get to this stage again, am going to have to get back to GP and ask for more help. what should I expect at least.
Last referral gastro doc said there wasnt anything he could do for me. but that was some years ago.

Have been reading that this can be masking gall bladder problems. Have you had that checked?

You have my every sympathy. I suffered from IBS for several years - in one of my worst attacks I fainted. I had a particularly painful attack when I was in late pregnancy, and the next day my waters broke (at 36 weeks) and I've often wondered if the IBS cramps somehow triggered my early labour.

Once diagnosed, I was advised to increase the amount of fibre I ate - but this seemed to make it worse. The consultant then said, 'oh yes, sometimes that happens. Some people are better with a low fibre diet'

I started low carbing a number of years ago, because I wanted to lose weight. But what I realised a few weeks in was that my IBS symptoms had completely disappeared.

And I've also found that when I fall off the low carb wagon for any length of time, the IBS symptoms are likely to rear their very ugly head again.

So back to your diet - do you eat a lot of carbs?

BIWI , interesting ! dont have a particularly high carb diet, am aware that milk /cheese is an irritant. I am waiting for result of blood test for celiac.

I also get extra periods when my IBS is particularly bad.

have had endometriosis and think it took me a long time to sort out what the pain was as am in constant pain. Sometimes I think I had both types of pain at the same time for ages. Have had 2 operations for that, and despite mirena coil will still get mini periods when IBS bad.

I am not eating today as I feel so sick. and am bent over walking around the house. I have had to take yet more time off work, which I really dont want to do. Its so bloody grim!

I think it's time for a review. I have IBS, coeliac test was negative but I'm definitely sensitive to wheat and lactose.
I started low carbing last month and saw a big improvement.
Have you tried any OTC meds like Senna? I find it quite strong so only take a half dose (7.5mg) at night to get going. Plenty of water too. I think if you're suffering this much though you should go back to your doctor.

Do the FODDMAPP diet every so often. it very boring time but does work.

senna and the like dont work at all. could eat a whole packet of that stuff and nothing moves.

Ironically have started to drink more water and less tea for other health reasons so dont understand why its so bad.

Endometriosis can also get into the bowels so this may also be a factor here. Endo is also something I would not wish on my worst enemy; it is a sod of a disease and it can take a lot to get rid of it. My guess is that there are some patches of endo which are now causing you pain.

Re your previous diagnosis of endometriosis did they just give you a Mirena coil, have you ever had laparoscopic surgery?.

I would actually be asking the GP for a referral to a gynaecologist, at the very least it all requires further investigation from your local hospital.

oh I had the scrape/polish and had torqued ovary sorted.

Never considered that endo would go in bowel as well.
I am aware that I have a 'loopy' bowel, and had colonoscopy years ago.

I have made a doctors appointment , mainly because I am hobbling around at home feeling and on occasion vomiting taking yet more time off work.
This damage was caused by food poisoning, nearly died from it 10 yrs ago and have been living in near constant pain ever since.

have seen doctor, and am going straight to hospital they think I am bleeding internally.

sent home today. said not bleeding but have viral tummy bug.
Was SO happy when the injection of boscopan kicked in as am in a lot of pain.

am at home, need to go back to gp and ask for further blood tests.

Been bit of a nightmare to be honest, and still feeling grim.

Have you tried hypnotherapy? Apparently it's very good for IBS.

I dont have a particularly stressful life, apart from when I am ill iyswim. Nothing out of the ordinary, and my IBS was pretty normal when I was going through a very, very stressful time last year.
I very much doubt that hypnotherapy would be of much help.

I am glad you are much better. Acupuncture was my saviour. I too was fine all through my separation and divorce. It was only when I thought wow I got through that OK and I'm ready to go on that I was very poorly as my IBS really flared up and I dropped two dress sizes. My body and mind had held it all together and moment I relaxed body couldn't take it. Could yours be similar?

No, not really. As i got IBS from being ill and it being damaged. Am sure if I am stressed at the time of a flare up it does have an impact.
But equally as I am left in constant pain even during happy times I think it doesnt make a difference either way.

I know that I will have to exclude some food groups from my diet for ever really to make any difference. and possibly wine, chocolate and tea.

I am not a great fan of alternative therapies at all.

Yes food avoidance def helps me. I couldn't drink for over 8-9 years but can now tolerate the odd glass. Nothing fizzy. Decaf tea. No coffee, the list keeps growing but it does help I find. If you don't believe in them then not worth trying as I think part of it is how you view them. I have also had great success with reflexology. A good daily probiotic may help too. Not food based but pure.

I think a probiotic is a good idea. forgot about that in this last batch of extreme nastyness.

am going to have a colonscopy this summer. something to look forward to!

am home resting, things moving but am in constant grumbling pain. If I walk too fast, or bend over or even sit down for too long get deep deep kicking pain in gut. I have to stop and wait for it to pass.

last time I was in this pain was after the food poisoning.

I am going back to the gp on monday am going to beg for an emergency appointment am taking the full 8 boscopan a day with little effect.

Oh this is bloody grim grim grim. I want to go back to work and be a normal person again!
