Threadworms

Think my dd5 has threadworms. She has been complaining of tummy ache for the last couple of days and last night she did a pooh and said that there were little worms in it, white ones - so am convinced this is what it is. Questions

  1. Do I need to take her to gp or can i just go to the doctors
  2. Can she go to school
  3. Do I tell the school

No she doesn't need to go to the docs. You can buy thread worm treatment over the counter.
I can't remember what it's called, but it's a really simple treatment. Either one tablet or one spoonfull of liquid. Obviously if you want it for free you need a script from the doc!! I think that a second dose can be taken a fortnight later if worms are still there. I've never had that with mine though, one dose has been enough,
Thread worms are so common, like nits, just annoying, but easier to get rid of than nits!!!

Yes you should tell the school as they can send out a letter. She can still go to school. Keep her fingernails hort and make sure they are kept really clean. Discourage her from touching her bum as this is where the worms come out to lay their eggs and they are gathered under finger nails and then the fingers gets put in mouths... you get the picture
