Think Ds has threadworms. How do I treat him?

Ds has been scratching his bottom for the last couple of days now.
I can't see anything in his poo because now he is toilet trained, it's not like I can check!!
I really don't want to give him medicines as he still hasn't forgiven me for the eye drops when he had conjunctivitis.
If I do all the clothes and bed linen changing everyday, frequent washing, pants at night, scrubbing religiously under his nails every day, hoovering and damp dusting, could I get away without a trip to the Gps/Pharmacy?

how old is he? Ovex over the counter. One tablet. You must treat all members of the family. Wash all towels, night wear, bedding 2 days after taking the tablet and then retreat and rewash everything 2 weeks later.

I'm not sure PersonalClown what you expect to happen if you don't give him drugs.
As I understand it, not only can this condition last for years, it is pretty infectious as well.
We had an outbreak recently, and it was not nice at all.
As poppies says, everyone in the home should be treated.
We got one pill each from the GP, and there was no drama from either the 5 or 3 yo.
Sometimes you need to take a second one two weeks later, but we didn't.

personal clowns ds is autisic btw. so understand medicines can be hard to get into him.

Sorry forgot to add that. He's not brilliant with taking new medicine. Usually only lets me give him Calpol or Nurofen but I guess that if it's the only way to treat him then I will do it.
Can I get the liquid over the counter or does it have to be prescribed by a doctor?

hi we have just treated ourselves for threadworm too - ovex liquid for babies and vermox tablets for grown ups (think they are almost same thing!)
however, after reading up on this you can get rid of them without drugs but takes around 6 weeks - cleaning everything daily, scrubbing nails, damp dusting, bathing in morning not night - they only have a 6 week life span so as long as dont get reinfected by eating eggs (on toast mmm nice!) then they will go without drugs

The tablets that you get from the doc is small and orange, and also chewable and orange flavour, so not to dreadful to take! i understand how difficult it can be with an autistic child, but these as all the family has to have them, and its the same tablet for everyone if he is over 2, then you could all take it together at the same time and pretend its a sweet?? If you leave it they breed and breed, and you will need more than one dose of medication to kill it.

Sarz, he won't even entertain the idea of trying something new. It takes weeks of me eating something before he thinks 'I'll try that'
Been to Boots anyway today. Got the liquid form and the nice bloke said that it would be fine to hide it in his milk!!!
Got to get it in him somehow!!
