Anyone had threadworm or had to medicate for threadworm while bfing a young baby? GP has only prescribed medication for the other members of my family, but not for me and ds2.

you cant have the medication when breastfeeding or under three months old.look at the nhs direct website which tells you how to get rid of them using hygiene measures.I also ate pumpkin seeds and used a homeopathic remedy called cina.Dont know what worked but something did as we are now clear!GOOD LUCK!!

I suspected dd had threadworm when I was pregnant (actually, don't think she did but was convinced at the time) and treated whole family. My OB let me have Pripsen, the sort that has piperazine in it instead of the other drug. Its also allowed for young babies, but not under 3 months, I think.
I've seen someone here recently asking about this whilst BFing, and they did take Ovex in the end - or something similar - on the basis that it doesn't get into your bloodstream much if at all (stays in the gut) and that there are studies that have been done in the Third World using it during BFing that were ok. I'm rubbish at links, or I'd try and find it for you.
But el is right, in that most GPs here won't prescribe anything until later on other than hygiene measures...unless you're absolutely desperate, I guess.
Good luck!
