valium/diazepam question Please

Hi - sorry yet another message from me. Maybe I should just have a whole health section to myself.

I just wondered if anyone has used valium/diazepam for any length of time.

I am 1 month off all SSRI's (after a switch from seroxat to prozac after numerous failed attempts to get off seroxat.)

Unfortunately the switch to prozac was fairly horrific and ended up having to take valium.

Been on it about 6 months now (a few days on 6mg/week on 4mg/4 weeks on 3mg and rest of time on about 2mg per day).

Im still really really struggling and had a very difficult few days. An SSRI charity and Dr have both suggested upping the valium for a while but I just feel like Ive swapped one addiction for another.

Just wondered if anyone had any insight/experience with it.

(Have seen a homeopath and am trying sepia too)

Thanks
Kizziex

Kizzie, sorry to hear this. No experience I am afraid, but what would happen if you weaned yourself off the Valium - 2mg every other day. 2mg of Valium is a pretty tiny amount - I wouldn't have thought it has a major effect on you. Are you having counselling? What happens to you when you have 'difficult' days?

Hi nancy thanks for replying.
Dr doesnt want me to wean off just yet because so close to coming off the prozac. She says its too much at same time. When I do I think the idea is to take same dose each day so there aren't fluctuations. (so 1 1/2mg few days then 1mg then 1/2mg)

Do you know anything about valium - sounds from your note that you have some knowledge of it.

I am having counselling (mainly to get over the horror of the withdrawal) and doing cbt.

A bad day is like the whole world has collapsed and Im in the middle of hell. Sorry - I know that sounds very melodramatic and Im not very good at describing it but thats about as close as I can get. (Basically the complete opposite of my 'normal' personality - pre the anxiety based PND.)

Anyway - thanks again for replying. I relaly appreciate it.

Kizzie - sorry you're feeling so low but well done for trying to get off the drugs and good luck with your counselling etc. My dh was on seroxat for PTSD a few years ago - it really helped his temper more than anything but eventually kept forgetting to take them so I suppose weaned off over a period of time. Obviously PTSD wasn't as bad as PND (his set in after a fire accident at work).

Hi Jampot - thanks for message!
Glad your DH got help and managed to get over the PTSD.
