I am taking ds2 to the doctors in 10 minutes.

he woke up this morning with BLEEDING and SMELLY nappy rash - seemingly from nowhere. He was a bit sore last night, so I put a but of metanium on his bum. I don't use sudocrem, as he reacts badly to it, and now I think metnium might make him worse.

he is bimbling around with no nappy or cream now, but I am going to have to put a nappy on him in a minute. Now, would it be ok to use petrolium jelly? Or would that make it worse? I want to protect his poor skin while I get down there

I think probably nothing might be better than something that might irritate his skin...

IMO petroleum jelly should be ok.
Better to protect, than make it worse

It's no better at all. All I dare use on it is warm water and vasaline, I don't know what to do! I am tyaking him back tomorrow. Anyone got any ideas about how to sooth it?

The cream you have been given takes about 4 - 5 days to kick in. so try and be patient, change the nappy as often as you can and also leave the nappy off for as long as you can too.

good luck.

Thasnks JG, I am sure you are right, it just looks so very sore, and weepy, and bleeding. It makes me want to cry!

My DS gets bleeding skin on his bottom when he's teething. I try and change his nappy as soon as he's done a poo (as it seems to be this that causes the problem). I use metanium cream, but is best to leave nappy off as long as possible. Luckily I have wooden floors which are easy to wipe up if he wees on them!!
