Damaged tooth???

A couple of weeks ago, ds1 got a nasty knock to his mouth. He moaned for a few days after that his tooth hurt and was constantly pulling at it. I've noticed over the last few days his front tooth is going black. He's just turned 3 (on day of accident). Should I take him to the dentist? Is he likely to lose it prematurely?

My son had this, I hadn't even noticed his banging it though. He was about the same age. My dentist told me it meant the tooth was dead and I should keep an eye out for any gum infection but otherwise not to worry as it was a baby one. So don't worry but do keep any eye on it. Take him if you're worried but it's prob just a dead tooth.
