Is dark purple a normal colour for an uncircumcised five year old boy penis?

Sorry for this subject matter but I don't want to rush to the doctor unnecessarily. Recently I have discovered that my son has a dark purple penis head, I am a little shocked at the colour. He doesn't complain of any pain but I am so worried about the colour. Is it normal? A few mothers have suggested I tell him to pull the skin back in the bath, but I don't understand why it won't just stretch over by itself. (my husband is circumcised so he doesn't know what to do either really.)

Leave well alone and monitor Smile

Take him to the GP.

I would ask his GP to have a look.

My sons foreskin doesn't retract, I've been advised not to tell him to pull it back.

I'd go to the GP.

Go to the gp but your ds should be pulling back his foreskin gently at this age to clean in the bath, we've had issues with ds1 & ds3 foreskin and this is what the doctor told us to do from 2 years to prevent the need to see a specialist and a circumcision.

Do you mean when he pulls the foreskin back the head of his penis is purple? My ds's was like that too so I don't think it's an issue. Some foreskins don't retract until puberty so it's not an problem if it doesn't retract at age 5

dementedpixie · 03/05/2016 18:42

Or do you mean the foreskin is stuck in the retracted position, in which case you should see a GP quickly

it mens healthy circulation, its norml it has to do with th vasculatur of that area, like a big blu vein, & may get more skin colored over time as keratinization (toughening/making like skin) can happen because of exposure
(just part of the time that it may happen, he shouldn't keep it back all day, or keep it dry)
like a tongue held outside the mouth for weeks getting tougher, also most kids at birth have their prepuce(foreskin)s fused to the glans with the same connection as fingernails, & it shouldn''t dissolve until from 2-3 years, to even as late as a ways into maturity, or even indefinitely until loss of virginity/intentional separation, & about 50% are separated by 10, all of which is ok, & because it's fused there's no space to get dirty so this cleaning thing is bs, in fact premature separation can cause damage including scar which can cause phimosis; inability to retract. im concerned for how ur abl to tel its color, neither u or he should b retracting it until its ready, & he'll likely b able to tell, & naturally discover it.

i dont want to b creepy, mine changes from skin colored to purple, pink; it has moods, his is probably fine
