YOu have to do what you feel is right for your kids.
It seems as if the main factor is the money side of things and, as you rightly say, if you were truly convinced that MMR was unsafe then you would pay whatever price for the singles.
Why not give DS1 his preschool booster anyway and DS" his MMR then a booster before school which is the normal schedule?
AS to wether the MMR is totally safe I believe it is safe, or at least as safe as these things can be, you will always have to take a risk whatever you do.

I know how you feel I chose not to have dd vaccinated as it was at a time when the hype was OTT.
However I did relent years on and she had it late.
I am now older, wiser and better informed and decided to have ds vaccinated with MMR and he will have all his other immunisations

This is only a decision you can make, and ultimately its yours no matter how many people you talk to. Try and do some (good) medical research and make your decision accordingly, HTH but probably not.

i know people who did singles for round 1 of MMR, then did the MMR for round 2.
Their belief was that with round 2 the children were older, stronger etc.. so their systems were more capable of dealing with the combined injection.

I would chase down or shout for "jimjams2" - she a mum on here who posts the most sane, practial and easy-to-understand advice about vaccines IMO - there are lots of other lovlies, but she comes to mind - try giving her a shout on the SN chat thread.
