chicken pox or bites??

I thought dd1 had chicken pox but she only has spots on her legs and one on her hand. The pharmacist agreed they look exactly like chicken pox. But she hasn't developed any more and she hasn't had any on her tummy or back. She had about 30 spots on her legs in all.

I am confused!! Is it likely to be chicken pox? A couple have crusted over but most have shrunk and look like they are disappearing. They do itch but not massively.

Any thoughts?

DS had CP a few months ago, and got spots everywhere... and I mean everywhere poor thing but like your DD, they itched, but not hugely - he did however have a high temperature that went with it (and normally does). Does/did your DD have a temperature?

My ds had something like this this last weekend - spots with blisters on over his legs that looked exactly like chicken pox. Took him to the Dr who said it wasn't chicken pox as if it was he would also have spots on his body, and thought it was a grass allergy. Since we saw the Dr, he then developed a few spots on the soles of his feet and the palms of his hands, along with a mouth full of ulcers (couldn't even eat chocolate buttons as it made his mouth sore), so I now think it might have been hand, foot and mouth disease. He is totally fine now - took him about 4 days to get over it.

Hope your dd is well again soon - it's a worry when they come up with something strange isn't it!!

The other thing that the Dr asked was if ds had been in contact with a dog or cat as they could have been bites - he hadn't, so that ruled that out. Has your dd been in contact with a dog or cat recently?

2ticks, it is amazing to me how often hand foot and mouth is misdiagnosed by gp's. It's really common and has exactly the same spots as chicken pox but on the legs/hands/feet instead of the torso. And of course once they get the mouth ulcers, it really sort of clinches it.
NancyKominsky...sounds like that's what your dd has. I think if you are a gp, you should be able to tell the difference between cp/handfoot mouth spots and insect bites. oh well. Good luck, it's not fun, but goes quicker than cp, I think. Just watch out because adults can catch it too and it's quite contagious and it's not a lot of fun for grownups.

I can't believe the Dr missed it either SophiaAmes - I feel really bad as after checking with him and getting the all clear, I carried on as normal with DS mixing with other children, who I'm now pretty sure we will have infected. . I guess I did what I could though & it's not my fault that he got it wrong.

Some kids just get a few and that is it (But apparently if you only get a few you are more than likely to get it again!!!!
