.... said that a recent blood test has shown some 'abnormalities' and she is to go straight up to the maternity unit??//

her due date is tomorrow anyway, im just a bit concerned as to what these potential abnormalities could be, and obviously, im concerned at the need for them to go straight up to hospital.

any ideas anyone???

goodness me...

something to do with rhesus status? pre eclampsia? GD?

whatever it is , it is being dealt with , that is the main thing, and it might be they are being over cautious, just in case, and she and baby are ok..IFYSWIM ....

try not to worry,. i;m sure you will get a call from them soon to let you know, or you could call hospital later?

ELF1981 · 11/01/2007 19:23

Group-B strep?
Isn't that a blood test?
I thought GD & P/eclampsia were urine tests?

lulumama · 11/01/2007 19:25

you do have bloods taken late on in pregnancy..cannot remember what for though ....so was trying to think of anything urgent ! yes, both are urine tests, but not sure if show up in bloods too

lulumama · 11/01/2007 19:25

obstetric cholestasis (sp?), pre-eclampsia- a blood test would reveal related HELLP syndrome which is reallt, really severe

could be really low iron levels- they threatened me with immediate hospitalisationa nd a transfusion at one point

hope she is OK

PeachyClair · 11/01/2007 20:21

*I should point ut-r eallys evere if left untreated, a c-section is essential- but as ong as delivery is immediate should be OK

(sorry)

hertsnessex · 11/01/2007 20:22

When did she have the blood tests?

if you dont knwo why, then could be Obstetric Cholestasis - was she itching?

GBS is normally done with a swab.

Gest Diabetes you have to have 2 or 3 tests done normally.

hope eveything is ok. Its really doubtful at this stage its anything serious with the babys health.

COuld it have been for antibodies?

ChicPea · 11/01/2007 20:35

A vaginal swab is done for a b-strep test. Hope everything is okay.

tiredemma · 11/01/2007 21:41

panic over - phew !

apparently, a recent blood test showed some abnormalities, midwife thought it would be good idea to go into hospital this evening when she recieved the results. So they went up, had another blood test and urine test, this blood test showed no abnormalities, so they have been sent home.

they are a bit peeved for being panicked but as i said, better to be safe than sorry, and i think that the midwife did the right thing.

just wait until baby makes an appearance now!!

thnaks everyone, was a scary few hours then.
