Chest pains - can anyone tell me what they might be ?

I have had about 3 occasions where I have had really bad chest pains over the past year or so. The 'episodes' normally last for about 10 mins and I feel like I have a crushing pain in my chest which won't go away. The last one I had a pain in the middle of my back as well - between shoulder blades. I am currently on thyroxine and one of the side effects is supposed to be chest pains. Has anyone been affected similarly or know what it might be. I am afraid I am going to suffer a heart attack !

chest pains should always be checked out make an appt NOW!!

go to docs straight away - could be a panic attack which can be very painful ... i have been to docs with something similar and have just had an ECG and loads of blood tests - you must get yourself checked out.

thanks for youor comments. Taylormama, I was in bed when the latest one happened - I don't think it is panic related. Hope you are now feeling ok though.

Have just been to the docs as she wanted to check me out. My heart and chest are fine. She reckons it might be indigestion. Having had 2 children I think I know what indigestion feels like !

Anyway, she did not seem concerned and just said ring her back if it happens again...

glad all is ok for you - indigestion can be very, very painful tho' ... hope things continue to improve

does it hurt when you press your chest where the pain is?

just had a call from the docs. She wants me to go for an ECG just to be on the safe side, although she doesn't think it is my heart. Lounan, sorry to hear you have been getting pains as well. Yes it is a crushing pain, haven't been feeling breathless though.
Mosschops - no it doesn't hurt when I press my chest.
