Tonsils.

Dd1 has been referred to the hospital to discuss having her tonsils out. She's 12. She's had 4 bouts of tonsilitis in the last 4 months, and that's only counting the times I have taken her to the doctor

She hasn't been to school at all so far this week.

There was a thread on this before somewhere. I had mine out at about 22 having resisted the Drs attempts before and got away with it because we moved. It was worth it, no more problems.

That's good to hear Davros, thanks.

I had mine out when I was 23 - was certainly worth it. 4 bouts in 4 months must hurt. Hope she's ok.

She's picking up again this afternoon. I know this as she has started to be cheeky again, and harrass her siblings.

I'm 41 and had mine out just before Christmas. It was truly the best thing I did - I'd just spent a year being constantly ill and on antibiotics. It was sore, but had plenty of painkillers and was fine for Christmas dinner! I haven't had so much as a sore throat since - and dire warnings from other people about increased chance of chest infections (pooh-poohed by my GP)have proved unfounded.

Poor her. It'll be better to get them out.

I had mine out when I was 9. It hurt but that was the grim hospitals in the 70s where parents could only visit for a few hours a day and I was miserable. It was great not to have tonsilitis again. I missed so much school - one year I had something like 30 days off!

DH had his out when he was 25 and was in agony for a day or so. He's still pleased he had it done though.

Think it was much worse for him. I think children heal quicker. Good luck!

Thanks Robin. I see there is a new way of removing tonsils now. Dh stumbled across a new procedure on some satellite channel the other day, and they were performing it in front of a group of docs, using, he thinks, plasma water (?). It seems to involve this water eating away the tissue holding the tonsils in place, so I will ask the doctor about it when we get an appointment. Will look out for Xylitol though.
