Mirena help please - not sure if its wearing off

So I've had my mirena in for 4 years and 3 months. It has generally been fine, apart from possibly a reduction in libido. I had very little bleeding from the word go and just an occasional hint of bleeding every few months (just on wiping).

However, the past couple of days TMI - I've had brown bleeding, enough to put a pad on and stringy clots. I also feel incredibly dizzy and am bloated as I used to be when I had AF.

Is this the mirena hormone wearing off? I'm not sure whether I need to go to my GP or not.

GP. Definitely doesn't sound right.

Urgh. Won't they just say, well it's a period? Will have to get a non-urgent appointment, can't really justify taking an urgent slot for it.

I've had my mirena in for 7 years, and it is still working great. I have had spells of what you are going through and some months are just like that. I would ask just at a normal gp app to see what they say, but tbh from my opinion you are just having a slightly heavier bleed than normal staining.

They have a life of 5 year don't they? I had one fitted in Oct 2010 and had to have it changed by end of October 2015. I checked with practice nurse about April 2015 (so 4 yrs 6 months ) and she booked me in for August (so actually had it changed at 4 yrs 10 mths).

I'd make an appointment.

They use the same one in Europe, there they keep it in for 10 years. Mine was only fitted for endo, and as its still working, im leaving it where it is!

All the info online says "upto 5 years". Worth a trip to the GP, OP?

I've made an appt with the fertility clinic for next month as you need an appt before they do anything. It did feel more like a proper period but it threw me as I just haven't had anything like that while I've had the Mirena in. It reminded me how much I hate having periods!

Joey - did you have yours changed or have you had the same one in for 7 years?
