My ds1 has been diagnosed with it, and is having antibiotics, just interested in any perspectives, as its quite rare now I believe. I certainly don't know any one who has had it, although some one must have given it to ds1

DD1 had it about 8 years ago. Her tongue looked like a strawberry.

GP prescribed abs and decided to take a throat swab as had had a case the previous week (someone I know now, but didn't then) and had a hunch. It was. Her face swelled up a little strangely too - she looked very odd for a day or so, poor thing.

My ds had it at age 5 - 13 years ago - GP said it wasn't common - but it certainly seems to be on the up now.

He was quite poorly with it, very high temp and his hands and feet peeled badly. He has no tonsils and didn't have an overly sore throat, but did have the other mouth/tongue symptoms. My mum recognised the rash from her childhood and said they used to burn all the school books of children who had it then.

Is it still a notifiable disease?

Don't forget to paint a cross on your door.

Must say I felt more unclean when ds2 had scabies. Lovely!

yeah still notifiable. Quite strange really. For any one who knows the "Velveteen rabbit" coincidently I was reading this to ds1 last night for the first time.
The victorian/Edwardian boy in that has Scarlet fever and he almost dies, and when recovered has to have all his toys and bedding removed Ds1 piped up "thats what I have Mummy arlet ever!

overrun do you remember 'Peppermint Pig' a kids drama that was on in the late 70s probably? That was about a little girl with Scarlet Fever. I have nothing useful to say, just a bit of reminiscing!
