Patch of skin feels like it's burning

I have a large patch of skin between my back and left hip which feels like it's had a friction burn but there is not a single mark on me.
I've had it since the weekend and there really been no let up and it occasionally goes round into my groin.
I'm hoping to get in with my GP tomorrow, I've been trying all week.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to sooth it?

Shingles? I had burning and tingling several days before the rash appeared. It would only be on one side of the back though, not across your back.

Oh bugger that's what I suspected too.
It is one patch.
Really hope it's not shingles though

If it's nerve pain (which you can get isolated and not as a result of shingles, but I think you'd prefer shingles as it eventually goes away) then standard pain killers don't really work and soothing the skin doesn't help as it's the nerve that's triggering the pain not the actual skin. I'd def check in with a gp.
