question about chicken pox

My two daughters both under three had lengthy exposure to chicken pox on saturday. I didn't find this out until yesterday, as even though the mother of the infected child has known since friday, she didn't think to tell me.

Anyway, what's done is done, and my question is :
Today both my girls have woken up with cold like symptoms. Could this be the start of chicken pox, or just another winter cold?

My ds woke up one day with 3 spots and i didn't know what they were. By the end of the day he had lots all over his belly. By the next morning he was covered! But i don't remember him having cold like symptoms so i wouldn't know if that was a common symptom im afraid. Also didn't even know ds was in contact with chicken pox so couldn't tell you how many days it was before his spots appeared.

But at least its out the way now!

Very wrong of the mother not to say anything to you. My ds was 11 months when he had them

It's only chickenpox - they've got to catch it sooner or later!

Spots appear approx 7 - 21 days after infection, so yes they might be about to develop it.

IME my 2 sons were exposed at the same time; DS2 got spots about 7 days later, and DS1 a week after that, so they might not both be ill at the same time.

Don't remember cold-like symptoms either, one of mine really mild CP, so you hardly noticed it, the other got all the spots infected and had a very high temp.

Very strange the mum didn't think to tell you... especially if there's any chance you might be pregnant.

thanks juicychops.

Part of me wants them to get chicken pox over and done with, but I'm just a little worried about my youngest being ill again, as she has recently lost weight due to various illnesses and she doesn't seem that strong at the moment.

dolally, no there's no chance I might be pregnant.

that's good belgo, cos it can cause problems if caught by a preg woman in the first three months.

Another good reason for your dd's to get it now!!!

dolally - yes I am hoping to become pregnant in the future, but I had chicken pox as a child, so I don't think there's much chance of me catching it.
