Mirena Fitted 3 Days Ago... Pain Is So Bad:-(

Hello
I had the mirena fitted 3 days ago .

The past 2 days I have felt so lousy , my tummy is swollen and aching, my lower back is sore and aching. I just want to cry. Had to put a brave face on at work all day feeling poorly (I'm a nurse) and have come home feeling so utterly lousy I got straight into bed.

I am sure it is not infection as I don't have the signs of infection- but wondered if anybody else has experienced this ?

I felt like that for about six weeks after having mine put in. I remember just what you say, coming home from work and going straight to bed. Sleep was the only thing that helped!

At about the six week mark I was going to have it removed...and all the pain stopped. Few problems in the last 3 years, apart from ovarian pain for a day or so every 3 months and some hormonal rage/ paranoia, again every 3 months.

There are many different stories to mine though. Hope you feel better soon.

Just remembered, I did have a scan after about 4 weeks as the pain was so bad - they checked for an ectopic or to see if it had moved. It was fine, which was reassuring at least.

Yup. Hurt like a bastard for about 5 days. Then only like a small git for about 3 months.

After 5 months it stopped niggling and bleeding.

Then a year later the fucker fell out.

I'm having the copper coil fit next week. My GP advised me there was a teeny - tiny chance of rupture of the uterus on insertion so a lot of pain meant I needed to be seen. It's very unlikely, she also advised that initially the womb would contract in an attempt to expel the foreign body (the coil) so may get some period like pains initially. I'm a bit nervous !

Same here. The first three weeks were so awful I was seriously thinking about getting it taken out. I felt like I'd been kicked in the lower belly by a donkey or something. I went back to my GP and she prescribed some stronger painkillers as paracetamol and ibuprofen weren't touching it, and that helped a lot.

Once the first three weeks were up it got a lot better. It took a few months for everything to settle down properly and I haven't had any problems with it since, and no periods either. It was just a bit of a struggle getting through the first few weeks.

Hope it settles down for you soon Flowers

Thank you so much everyone.

It makes sense that the body might try to reject it with it being a foreign body.

My tummy is so swollen I look 6 months pregnant Sad.

I've had 2 mirenas Some bleeding on the day of insertion and the day after but no real issues thereafter.

What you're experiencing doesn't sound normal to me. Back to the GP I would say.

I had a mirena fitted. No side effects. Just good ones of reducing heavy bleeding. I would go back to the doctor if you're suffering.
