I had some stitches taken out today but there appears to be what looks like a stitch under my skin. I didn't notice it at the time

The stitches were blue and plasticy

Is it a bit of leftover stitch or just an optical illusion - blood or bruising or whatever?

No, don't think it's a stitch. More likely just the wound edges. I would see how it settles
