The tale of the never-ending period

For about 2 years I've had bouts of being on my period every day for up to 6 weeks at a time, with 2 week-ish gap before it all starts again. I rarely get a 'proper' period but it seems to be endless spotting, enough that I need a liner.

Any ideas why this might be? I've always had irregular periods but not as boringly unending as this. My youngest child is 3 and I have a copper coil in. No underlying health issues that I'm aware of, no fertility issues, my smear test was recently clear and my BMI is normal.

Have you discussed this with your GP? If not, make an appt immediately and ask whether the coil could be causing the problem, since it would appear that this problem started after you had that fitted.

I had similar, and I have a copper coil.

My GP gave me progesterone (brand name primolut) which stopped the bleeding as he was afraid of anaemia and made another apt for me with the female GP to come back after a month if it hadn't sorted itself out. He had gone through my entire menstrual and reproductive history with me also.

The progesterone did the job, and I went back to the other GP. She went through my menstrual history with me (I track it on my phone) as well, as she has had more training on gynaecology. She gave me a 3 month recurring progesterone prescription, and told me that I may have to go on the pill for 3 months just to give my system a kick in the ass/some retraining on how a cycle is supposed to work.

Thankfully, the progesterone appears to have done the job for the moment. Still haven't managed to have my smear though as every time I make an appointment I manage to get my period. Stupid Uterus.

I had the same with a copper coil. Eventually I got a scan and in turned out the coil had slipped. It was removed and replaced with another one. No problems since.

I haven't been to see a doctor yet but I've started tracking everything on an app so I'll go when I've got something to show them. Good to know it can be fixed!
