I know that I shouldn't be all , but I am so I have changed my name.

I have got a bad case of piles . They are causing me quite a lot of discomfort and are bleeding a little. Shall I self medicate with Anusol or do I need medical attention?

Anusol worked very quickly for me after DD was born. Suppose it depends on the extent of the problem. I don't think mine were that bad. Still cause a bit of an itch sometimes so I just use the cream for a couple of days. Try it and if it doesn't feel any better in a couple of days go to the Dr

I've had piles since DS was born. Eating wholemeal bread helped as it softens the stools.

I had this and went to GP in the end. He sent me to hospital where I had them injected. NOT as bad as it sounds! AND they are much better - no bleeding (to speak of) or discomfort either!

I am suffering from what I hope is a mild case - I had my DS 3 weeks ago and as I was pushing him out I pushed the piles out too - I got them after my DD 3 yrs ago as well Germaloids has worked for me both times. Also drinking lots of water which stops you being constipated and softens your stools.

You could ask you GP for some fybogel or lactulose to help you go to the toilet easier while you self medicate the piles - which if you are embarrassed about things would be the easier thing to ask for.

hamlyn · 03/01/2007 22:21

Oh yes lactulose on tap after my births!!

If it doesn't get better in a week or two, go see a doctor. It took me 5mths and a heavily bleeding bum to go. Turned out it was actually a bad fissure.

I was quite embarassed (don't know why, fanny stuff doesn't bother me!) and told the doctor that before i told her what was wrong. She said not to worry, and it was very common, and she'd seen it all befor etc. Examination was over in a minute.

Germoloids used to make a wipe as well (sorry - was a number of years ago so don't know if they still do) which you could use to stop the itching and help with the swelling.

Also, it will help if you use moist wipes rather than toilet paper.

If they're bleeding regularly you should definitely go to the GP.
