go and see a dr - could be asthma. Try sleeping propped up in bed as lying flat can make it worse.

But go see a dr and get them to check it out.

My DS aged 3 had the same and gp prescribed antibiotics when he had a temperature which went but the cough didn't. Saw a peadiatrician who prescribed Neomycin which is an antihistamine which would last for about 6 hrs but tried Piriton which worked. After his bath he would start wheezing slightly and start coughing about 2hrs after going to bed. I gave him the piriton when he started to cough which took him through the night. Then I stopped jelly babies as a treat and he has stopped completely. I am too scared to re-introduce them as no coughing at all. I think the cough was allergy related and when he got a temperature there was then an infection.

Oh, also had an inhaler which when bad I tried which stopped it but only for that night. DS also had since stopping jelly babies some smarties and the coughing and wheezing started again so wonder if he has an allergy to the colourings. He is also allergic to eggs, fish, humous (haven't tested for nuts).

Asthma can just play up again without warning and with no apparent reason - mine has and its annoying too.
