failed third hearing test

My daughter failed her first screening test at 7 weeks in her left ear and passed on the right. Now, three tests later (the first two were OAEs), she failed the ABR on the left and just got 'some response' on the right ear, not a 'strong response'. We have been referred for diagnostic testing. I am totally freaking out. Has anyone had this kind of experience? Please help

I have. Don't panic too much. Their hearing for the test purposes can be affected by colds and so on. It took four goes to get my son through his.

My child was 2 weeks old and up to then had not reacted to any noise at all. Everyone said it was because he was my 3rd baby and used to the noise. Yes, because we often stood by my bump and banged a cymbal! We rang round lots of hospitals and went halfway across the country to one which did newborn hearing tests. He passed but it was only after cranio osteopath treatment that he started to react to noise. He had lost his twin in the womb and had a traumatic pregnancy and delivery, and his little body had closed down due to stress. After a few treatments he was much more settled. Maybe something to think about?

I think you posted about this before. here is a link to some leaflets that have been written to explain the process to parents - I think you need stage 3. Having read through it does say that most babies referred to audiological assessment do not have a hearing loss.

Please don't freak out, especially at this early stage. I think you should have been given more reassurance about this from the start - you have not been treated well.

Yes, bear in mind what dimpledthighs has said - most babies do not have a hearing loss.

You are being referred on, the medical people will guide you through it. Just take it one stage at a time and try not to worry - talk over your fears with them.

(dd2 failed over and over, referred to hospital's audiology, didn't do well, diagnosed glue ear, one lot of grommets after another, but nothing serious.)
