ds 6 mo has woke up this morning screaming blue murder. screamed all the way through his bottle, and screamed more when i took it away. bright red cheeks so i think its teething. so i put my finger in his mouth and he bit down hard .. but with the back of his gums. so i felt the top gum at the back and he seems to have a couple of teeth coming through there? i thought they are meant to get the front ones first, the back ones last?is it not teeth i am feeling?this is my 1st so i don't really know what teeth under the gum feels like tbh.

have you got any calpol or nurofen, see if that settles him. Teeth generally do come front first but who knows we are all individuals. Hope it gets better for you.

6 months is too early for back teeth. It is quite possibly the bone you felt under the gum.

These teeth don't come thru until around 18 months. Although the guidelines for teething are just that, and differ from child to child, I think it is just too early.

It is around the right time for teething for his front teeth. Although there may not be something for a while.

This sounds more like he has a temperature, probably a cold or similar virus. What you are feeling in his mouth are the hard bones he will need for chewing before his teeth come through.

Can you take his temperature? If not feel with your lips on his body or put your finger under his arm to see if he is hotter than usual. Give him some Calpol. If you think he is hot, strip him off and give him a tepid bath. If he is angry/alert and feeding okay then it's probably not too much to worry about, but if he goes floppy and stops feeding then you need a doctor asap.

It could be teeth but it is very unlikely. Rule out any other causes first.

he does feel hotter than normal especially the back of his head? took his temperature though and it was only 37.6 so nothing to worry about there i don't think. have given calpol and bonjela which seemed to settle him.

i'm not sure what it feels like really. sort of raised iyswim.

I thought DSs were coming through, but its just bumpy at the back... He's got 4 front teeth now He's 9 months.

yeh i think that's probably what it is. teething with front uns, and the back is just bumpy.

Babies gums are bloody hard and teething time makes them all feel like they are going to pop out right that minute. BFing a LO who is teething showed me that! (Nips like bullets now me!)

A friend told me of a LO who got a molar first so don't worry too much.

Calpol and cuddles tbh and if you get really worried call the docs
