Hello and Happy New Year,

My son is 2 and half weeks old and occassionally when he is sleeping has moments of rapid deep breathing. Is this normal?

Many thanks.

Congratulations on your baby boy

Pretty sure occasional rapid breathing is normal, could he be dreaming?

Hi Wallace,

Many thanks for your message. Yes I think you are right, I have been reading up on the internet and rapid breathing is perfectly normal in newborns and it could be that they are dreaming.

Happy New Year.

SH

Yes completely normal, when ds was 2 days old had I panicked about this and as was still in hospital midwives called a peadiatrician to check. She said it was completely normal. Demanded to see another one who said the same thing.

Spent 4 hours watching her just breathe!
