OP posts:
noraa · 07/01/2007 11:33

thanks very much charliecat.
i felt bad so i wrote here.
suddenly i felt like i forgot everything bad about it.

charliecat · 07/01/2007 11:36

Its ok, I used to type madly and aimlessly on this thread when I first stopped, anything but smoke...even just typing arrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Glad you didnt have one. You do forget why your stopping and quite fancy one sometimes, its accepting that and not having one that gets you there in the end!

noraa · 07/01/2007 11:39

i am not keeping any fags at home to prevent myself from smoking.

charliecat · 07/01/2007 13:19

Good

lou33 · 07/01/2007 20:42

6 weeks and one day today

lou33 · 07/01/2007 20:49

IF, i just saw your post to me, sorry i went away for ny, only got back on the early hours of the 6th.

I had asthma years and years ago, maybe 20, but not since, in fact its only come back since i stopped smoking, plus i have been really ill over xmas and now have been even more sick since 3rd jan

I have 2 inhalers,a preventer and a reliever, which i am taking 2 puffs of each, 4 times a day, tho i am contemplating calling the doc tomorrow as i think i have a chest infection from this stupid bug

imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 18:07

lou, could it be worth asking your GP to refer you for a chest x-ray? that would show if there's an infection although I would have thought you'd have other symptoms like a fever and general illness. I'd get one done if I were you, just in case you need other medication?

OP posts:
lou33 · 08/01/2007 18:28

oh ive had a fever since weds, it finally went today, but i still have the hacking cough and headache and nausea, no aching bones tho at last

my oh is nagging me to go to the doc, i suppose if i dont have a significant improvement overnight i will do

imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 22:07

lou it sounds horribly like the pneumonia dd and I had, it was called microplasma pneumonia and made me very sick and unwell for about 3 weeks, dd less thank goodness.

But weren't you having breathing problems leading up to your quit 6 weeks ago?!

OP posts:
lou33 · 08/01/2007 22:26

yes but wheeziness which the inhalers fixed immediately, then i got sick again

bandstand · 08/01/2007 22:27

aah after 8 weeks and surviving christmas holidays, difficult dh, sucumbod today!

lou33 · 08/01/2007 22:38

man now you got me worried, i googled and have had most of the symptoms it describes as having pneumonia, plus my nephew just had it before xmas

definitely a trip to the doc i think tomorrow

imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 22:48

I would, lou, the microplasma pneumonia has been around our area quite a lot in the months up to Christmas. Bear in mind that they can't always diagnose it with the GP listening to your chest, you need your SATS taken and a chest x-ray. Then I had two lots of antibiotics and steroids for a week plus strict inhaler regime. I've never felt so ill in my life to be honest.

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 22:49

Just one slip, bandstand, or more? Don't lose that hard work quitting ... straight back on the wagon ok?

OP posts:
bandstand · 08/01/2007 22:51

yup, flushign it own he loo!

bandstand · 08/01/2007 22:52

btw, didnt read prvious messages about possible pneumonia, sorryto hear that.

lou33 · 08/01/2007 22:59

well ive had sweats and chills since weds, the cough is nicely hacking, i was having pains in my chest which i put down to coughing so hard, my fever has subsided to almost normal today, i seem to have a permanent headache, and i looking fucking shit

i had to d the school run today, and this afternoon when i was waiting for them to come out i actually lay my seat down flat cos i felt so ill lol

at least i have lost my xmas pot belly tho

i bought some new jeans on new years day in prague because my others tore and they are too big now

6 weeks and 2 days not smoking tho!

lou33 · 08/01/2007 23:01

oh i forgot to add that the inhalers are keeping the worst of it at bay but i could do with using it a lot more than 4 times a day really, the way my chest feels

imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 23:04

I felt awful, lou, really awful. And dd had her birthday party right in the middle of it. I spent the best part of two weeks in or on the bed. Dp had to take dd to school and I tried to do bed-bound activities with her in the afternoons. I could sleep all the time, chest hacking, horrible. If you go to the hospital they'll give you a couple of nebulisers which do much more than the inhalers and the steroid tablets really really help after about 6 hours after taking them. I remember now that I felt so unwell I cried with unwellness. I've never done that before, just cried because I felt so awful.

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 23:05

btw, the hospital consultant told me to have two puffs of ventolin every 4 hours or more if needed. Do you have a 'spacer'? Dd has one and I used it. You can blast 8 puffs into it and breathe it in slowly and it's like a mini nebuliser.

OP posts:
lou33 · 08/01/2007 23:11

i dont have a spacer any more no,but i have been using the inhalers more often , i figure better that than not being able to breathe

ikwym about crying, i've been periodically doing hte same, god knows how i stayed upright on fri waiting to come home, we had to check out of the apartment at 11 am and the flight was 10pm at night, and i have never slept so much ever

on saturday i went to bed at 9.30pm and slept til 2pm sunday, and that wasnt including the times i fell asleep on saturday afternoon

its all sounding good for me isnt it

i should have listened to my oh today and gone to the doc, but i felt so ill i couldnt have made it

imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 23:22

lou, why not go to the A&E instead? You'll get everything checked in one place plus get given meds straight away and a nebuliser? That's what I did.

I slept like that too. Most unlike me. I'm normally a wired, can't sit still insomniacal type but I turned into a weepy, sleepy, coughing wreck.

OP posts:
lou33 · 08/01/2007 23:31

it's miles away, but if i go to the doc they might tell me i can go to the minor injuries unit in haslemere for the xray and stuff, which will be quicker and closer, but they have to send me

god it isnt sounding good is it?

POOR ME!!!!!!!!

its almost funny really, i give up smoking and have the worst chest i ever had and signs of pnuemonia lol

imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 23:34

And what's bizarre is that that's exactly what happened to me! I quit on 18 August and by mid-October I was in a real state with the pneumonia. Dd had it first and was quite unwell but responded immediately to steroids and antibiotics. I was ill for weeks. and exhausted until about a month ago really.

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 08/01/2007 23:37

Got to crash now lou. I really hope you get some results tomorrow. Honestly once you've got the medication it's quite amazing how quickly you start to feel a bit more human.

Keep me posted?

Sleep well.
