so I find out today that dh has been abusing Tramadol. So this was probably reason for his fit.

went to gp today to get pain killers, sick note and advice on when he can drive again to find out that he's been having prescriptions for tramadol for months, says to gp and to me that he only been taking prescribed amount but on way home admits that he taken them all in about 2 weeks then having none until he can get a repeat prescription.

Now says he not sure if he wants us (me and kids anymore)

He has done this before but tbh thought it was the end of any more secrets 18 months ago when he had an affair. thought we were working through that and now this. Flaming marvelous.

How much more can one family take????

it gets better today i find out that actually over the last 10 years he has only had breaks of about 4-5 months every now and again so he's been taking either cocodamol, tramadol or dihydracodiene in what doeses i don't know but probably a significant amount over the prescribed limit.

So that means that 2/3 of our marriage has been built on lies and deciept.

I think the fit was maybe the kick up the backside that he's needed, made him realise he's not infalable.

But what damage what that long term abuse do to your body?

Am off to search and frighten myself to death.

Don't search, you will only upset yourself. I bet he has been bloody constipated over the years.

Is he getting any help and are you getting support.....contact Alanon

alalon seems to be for alcholics.

I can't believe he's been taking them for 10 years non stop where the hell does he put them, keep them, buy them?

What if he's damaged his liver beyond repair, no wonder his pupils are always tiny and at times he looks yellow.

The liver can be very resilient, and has wonderful powers of recovery. He needs to stop first. Isn't there a narcotics annon thing?

longwaytogotobethlehem · 30/12/2006 15:30

he is seeing gp on wed who is refering him to someone who specialises in otc/prescription misuse, but for now he not got any and i guess the side effects are huge. He shouldn't just stop taking them but seems he only just told me its been going on so long i a bit stuck, can't speak to gp today or tomorrow, so don't know if he should still be taking them or not.

I've posted a link below for Narcotics Anonymous - please do call them and see if they can help you.

A couple more days is neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things - try not to worry until Tuesday. At least he is out of your hair til then.
