I'm not terribly convinced by this week Confused

The aim is to keep outside pollutants outside of the house with the following methods:

  1. Have a no show policy inside the house - remove your shoes at the door and keep fluffy socks and slippers for guests (causing MNer friends and family members to start AIBU threads about you Grin)
  1. The "buffer zone" where you remove shoes should have flooring that is easy to clean, is resistant to moisture and doesn't collect dirt and dust.
  1. The buffer zone should have: a shoe scraper for mud and snow, an outdoor mat to wipe shoes on, an area rug that can be washed, a waterproof shoe mat or tray to collect water when it's raining, a bench/chair to sit on when removing shoes, an exhaust fan to ventilate and avoid mildew and mould (wtf?), hooks for coats, baskets for bags and an umbrella holder.

I'm going to use this week for something else personally!

Previous weeks to carry on with are drinking more water, getting routine activity, getting more sleep, keeping a food diary and taking a multivitamin.

I was thinking last night it's kind if nice to have this non new habit week. Gives a chance to cement stuff. I'm also hoping there are a few more bonkers ones through the year.

I also realised yesterday that the key to not leaving my shoes in the lounge room might be not just taking them off there. So I'm going to try taking them off in my room

ICJump · 08/02/2016 20:23

quirky I have quite a collection of shoes. They do bring joy to me so I feel I need to keep them.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 08/02/2016 20:32

Ooh, shoes have hit a nerve, maybe we should polish them and wrap them in fleecy bags Grin

Destinysdaughter · 08/02/2016 20:44

I'm addicted to shoes, have about 50 pairs of shoes/ boots, some of which I've never worn/ worn once! But I can't bear to get rid of them.

I even have a pair of cowboy boots I bought in America in 1989..,Blush

RattieOfCatan · 08/02/2016 20:45

IC I feel the same, no new habits means I can really concentrate on the older ones and relax a little!

DrDiva · 08/02/2016 21:26

Ah shoes...
I have some I haven't worn for years, but they are staying. According to the Kondo method I am allowed to as they bring me joy too, IC !

betwitched I would take you up on that delivery, but my last big delivery really got stuffed up. I ordered a nice, laid-back baby, and got a high-intensity, iamgoingtofeeleverythingtentimesmorethaneveryoneelseandattwicethespeed baby. Hmm and not only that, but the company were a whole two months out with the delivery date. I nearly wasn't in. So I'm afraid I will have to pass.

quirkychick · 08/02/2016 21:49

DrDiva I have one of those, Dd1 is super sensitive, even 10yrs later... I have bought The Highly Sensitive Child book (that I must finish) she satisfies 20/22 of the traits they list.

Re shoes: my dm always says that wearing lots of different shoes is good for your feet Wink.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 08/02/2016 21:55

My product is guaranteed inanimate DrDiva, it will arrive as described.

Actually, I think your 'whole two months out with delivery date' qualifies you for the inflatable buffer zone free of charge Smile
I'll even throw in the fluffy bum buffer.

Shoes are a great joy, I have been known to hang them on the wall.

Destinysdaughter · 08/02/2016 22:33

Ooh I'd love a shoe wall! Actually I have so many shoes I could probably start a shoe museum...Smile

OddSocksHighHeels · 09/02/2016 02:14

A shoe wall would be amazing! I love shoes even though I always end up wearing the same ones. They make me happy though Smile

DrDiva · 09/02/2016 03:41

Ah, you have me with the fluffy bum buffer! How can I resist?

I have the most amazing pair of high-heeled boots that I haven't got to wear for years. Every so often I take them out of their box just to admire them Blush

DrDiva · 09/02/2016 03:42

I love the idea of a shoe wall. I can guarantee DH wouldn't. Should I LTB?

fuzzpig · 09/02/2016 10:31

Hmm. Interesting one this week!

I barely have a hallway! :o

ICJump · 09/02/2016 10:52

I realise I don't do any activity. I mean I walk about a bit but hardly any actual activity.

This really needs to change. I'm not really sure how to get it into my day.

How do you all do it ?

NightWanderer · 09/02/2016 12:10

I have some shelves in the hall for shoes. It's a bit higglidy piggildy but they keep the shoes out of the way. I don't really believe the hall can be a barrier for toxins though.

OddSocksHighHeels · 09/02/2016 12:17

ICJ I don't do loads of activity either but I make myself go for a walk twice a day - it's good to be outside anyway and helps me clear my head as well.

OP posts:
quirkychick · 09/02/2016 13:11

I think I need to tidy the shoes on the rack... and maybe buy some more too! I might rearrange my shoes/boots in the wardrobe too.

ICJump I walk loads as the dcs school is 20 mins away. I try to fit some exercise into my day e.g. before the dcs get up for school or once they are at school. I really need to start to do some proper cardio, which I'm not really managing atm.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 09/02/2016 18:31

Well I've had plenty of cardio today, my car broke down this morning and my daughter needed it for work this afternoon.
And I had to be somewhere this afternoon at 4.
And I'm going away early tomorrow morning and she would have been stuck without a car ... and breathe.

Not quite the sort of cardio needed I don't think.
I did have to walk home from the car.

Heart rate just slowing down now with WineGrin

Obviously a big market for the inflatable buffer zone, and shoe walls!

Honestly, how can a hallway be a barrier for toxins? It's where we all store our items which are drenched in outside germs and muck!

DrDiva · 09/02/2016 18:40

And what about airborne toxins?

Hope you get your car fixed speedily, bewitched

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 09/02/2016 22:27

Thanks Dr it was just a loose wire, fixed in seconds. Buggered up three of us for the afternoon though.

Bloody toxic cars Grin

margaritasbythesea · 09/02/2016 23:26

Me to fuzzpig. Nice and tidy now though!

Bewitched I'll bet there was a need for a toxic buffer zone for language by you today!

Ic- I do one of the levels of the 30 day shred 3 times a week. Not how you're supposed to do it but it is something I can fit in and I feel like it does me good. That or running when the dcs are in bed but that's usually a bit later in the year.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 10/02/2016 00:29

margaritas have we met? You seem to know me rather well!

My expletive muscle has been very well exercised today.

That counts doesn't it?

I'm going somewhere wifi wobbly so will check in when I can.

OddSocksHighHeels · 10/02/2016 01:02

So I haven't created a germy buffer zone Grin but I have drank my water, taken my vitamins, logged my food (which was shit but it's logged), had a nice long walk and moisturised.

Well done for the exercise of the expletive muscle Bewitched I think it's my most exercised muscle too!

margaritas how hard is the 30 day shred? Is it the type of thing you need to already be really fit for or is it good for pathetic and weak beginners too?

OP posts:
margaritasbythesea · 10/02/2016 07:12

I did it much more seriously about four years ago when I hadn't done any exercise for years. I found it hard but doable in part doable I think because I knew it was only 20 minutes. From being unfit I did see progress quickly too. I lost 20 kilos doing that and mfp and though I am proud of that I can't say it was too much of a hardship.

You do get very hot and sweaty.

margaritasbythesea · 10/02/2016 07:13

Bewitched Grin nothing like a good old curse to make you feel better.
