Fever 39.9 & runny nose

My DS, 17 months, has had a fever all sat, sun and xmas day. I was at my in-laws, so no themometer was available until earlier today. He'd respond well to calpol and one minute be all quiet and whimpering and the next running around laughing. I get home and taken his temperature and its 39.9 (using a digital ear themometer). I should have dumped him straight into the bath but DH said no. Anyway, after calpol, his temperature came down again. He has a really runny nose and can't breathe properly, have been using vicks, and has a really red cheek. He's not eaten anything since Sat but drinks a lot of milk. Does anyone have any advice?

give nurofen as well

keep him cool in a well ventilated but not drafty room

offer plenty of fluids

and if you are worried call nhsdirect / Dr / take to out of hours gp etc

if his temp has come down and stays down and you arnt overly worried then just montot temp closely

dont waorry about not eating.... as long as he drinks and has a few wet nappies!

My ds2's temp was 39.9 yesterday too, with runny nose/eyes and general misery

Agree that if you're worried call NHS Direct or out of hours doc.

yep, we have been in the same boat since friday. apprantly 'there is a lot of it about'. DS has eaten nothing but has been sipping water. His temp came down last night but he has zero energy. Christmas has officially been a wash out, so dissapointing.

hope your lo's get well soon
