Hi all.
Long time no see.
I do miss mumsnet but life with 3 is alot buier, i love it.
My sisters little boy who is 4 has just been diagnosed with measles and my baby who is just 4 months was with him a few days ago (as were my dd's aged 1 and 5 but they've both had the jab........mind you so had my Nephew!). Anyway, it looks like my ds has it. He's had a terrible cough the last 2 days and runny eyes, tonight he has a beetroot red cheek and spots on his belly, i rang the out of hours Doc and he said he'd come in the morning if i was worried. I know they can't really do anything but i obviously want a diagnosis. I was really suprised he didn't come out when i said baby and measles.
Anyway, i know a few little one's on here have had it so basically, what can i really expect and any tips on making life more pleasant for poor Elliot?

Thanks in advance as he's stirring and i miss you all.

and Happy Christmas Mumsnetters one and all!

Take your child to A and E if you are worried. Measles can kill.

To lower the temperature, use tepid water and sponge him down as well as calpol. Dress him in loose clothing

sorry to hear your lo has the measles, bet he's miserable.
I'm sure he'll be fine, and just think he'll have lifelong immunity now!
Hope he copes alright,I remember as a child being cooped up with it,feeling pretty rough.Glad your other children are okay.

Ohh angeliz , what a time to get it. Does he have a temp ? I suppose if you get worried during the night there is A&E.

Ive caught a fright now , dd also 4mths , has a runny eye & bright red cheek intermittently. I havent seen a rash on her belly and no temp. Are these the symptoms? Do they not always get a temp ? I thought with measles its a definite rash and temp?

I will be watching this thread for info too.

angeliz - poor little lamb. Have you had a diagnosis yet? FWIW my friend's ds had very similar symptoms to measles just after his jab but they wouldnt diagnose it as such. I hope he's feeling better now {{}}

Only just saw this by the way

DS had measles and it wasn't very nice but try not to worry too much. I got myself into an awful tiz as all the media stuff was happening at the time (DS was on Newsnight in fact).

Anyways increase his intake of orange fleshed veg - Sweet Potatoes etc. Can't remember which vitamin it is in orange fleshed veg but it is very important in measles (will do a google in a min). Get the temp down as best you can and give plenty of fluids. I would have a doc look at him (preferably one who is old enough to remember Measles).

It's VIT A. Here is a WHO link - go to Annex A toward the end of the document
