Morning, been up all night with DD age8, complained of a sore thumb yesterday, looked a little sore, so we bathed it and dressed it.Given pain relief but doesnt seem to take effect. Never seen her this upset before! This AM the thumb looks infected, she wont let me touch it at all.Desperate to give it a good squeeze .I know we are going to end up at GP. Any suggestions in the meantime? Thanks.

Poor dd and poor you! My only suggestion would be to dip it in warm salty water - as warm as she can bear it and hold it in there. The heat should help the pus (yuck!) to draw and the salt will disinfect. Sorry - not any different to what you are doing.

Santa will know how brave she is being! . Hope she feels better soon. bb xx

If she has pain up her arm I reckon she will need antibiotics. Poor love! And she isn't even getting a day off school now is she. Life can be very unfair!!

Hope it improves quickly so that she can rip open her presents on Monday!

alcyone · 21/12/2006 09:19

She definately needs antibiotics, i think she has swollen glands under arm, bless her she won't stop crying, but she's enjoying reading these messages! Roll on 3pm

oh poor thing, has she got a red line going up her arm?
seems a long time to wait until 3pm

alcyone · 21/12/2006 09:33

Thanks for your responses, no, can't see red line, but her arm is quite hot, trying to get her to bathe it again but she's really not happy. Distraction techniques, plenty of cuddles and calpol 'till 3pm. She's had all the usual childhood ailments, but ive never seen her in this much pain before. My dd2 is giving her a'massage' now to keep her calm

If you can't bear to wait until 3pm I'd go to A&E. They usually put kids to the front of the queue and then she can start antibiotics asap

brimfull · 21/12/2006 09:38

Yeh,if the pain is bad,I'd go to casualty, you'll get the ab's quicker and poss a better night's sleep as they'll have kicked in by then.

Mumpbump · 21/12/2006 09:42

Go to A&E. If you're going to sit around waiting anyway, you might as well do it somewhere where you've got a good chance of being seen sooner than 3pm. Plus, a change of scene might be a good distraction for her, poor thing...
