Ds sent to hospital with suspected pneumonia

Ds is usually very fit, runs most days, gym four or five times a week. At the weekend he came down with a virus so had high temperature, rigors, cough, sore throat. Expected him to shake it off but went to GP Monday as was feeling poorly and she prescribed antibiotics and ordered blood tests.
He went back today as still feeling awful and GP sent him to hospital. His blood shows an infection but the GP said that his white blood count is "wrong"
At the hospital he's had an xray which shows a slight infection, another blood test which "shows a problem" and is now being repeated again with more blood tests and he has to have a urine test and swabs taken.
Since Christmas he's been unusually tired but he works hard and thought that the break had thrown him off routine. I feel quite anxious, any thoughtson what might be wrong?

Yes that's what you'd expect OYBBK. Ds works in Local Government and their department isn't one that is customer facing and doesn't bring them into contact with people who are ill so essentially not an increased chance of picking something up at work. They work rurally so don't use public transport, ds lives alone and the workmates have children who are secondary age and above so not going into schools etc. I'd think that statistically their risk should be low so definitely a blip somewhere.

If the cluster grows then I reckon the hpa will pick up on it.

It's not just air conditioning - take a look here www.hse.gov.uk/legionnaires/risk-systems.htm

I first starting reading your thread on Saturday as had been laid up since Wed with flu like symptoms.
By Sunday morning I eventually got taken by ambo into hospital where they first diagnosed pneumonia from chest X Ray but also had crippling pain in lower abdomen. Had exploratory surgery Sunday night and the found loads of pus round my Fallopian tubes which they've cleaned out and came round to them telling me I have enlarged liver with no obvious reason. On HD unit till lunchtime today when results taken from swabs I gave on admission show I also have Influenza A (and a throat infection but I'm not counting that now)
I'm 39 no smoker don't drink much and was til Wed evening a pretty normal fit and healthy bod

Your thread had helped me convince my self wasn't "that" ill but guess these things just happen

Hope your ds is back to normal soon. My DM is over the help DH with our 5&2 year old monsters

Oh Chocolate I am so glad you got to hospital. It's a vicious strain isn't it? Ds is recovering,in fact today he is looking much better but I think it will be a while before he's back to normal. He has papers for follow up blood tests and x rays do you? I'm really glad you have some help I'm still feeding ds and doing his laundry and doing his housework because he's not up to doing much more than making a coffee and toast. He says he can legitimately say that he definitely didn't have man flu this timeGrin

I think I'm here for a couple more days but will see glad to hear your ds on the mend

Thanks for updating, insanity - I had been thinking about your ds and wondering how he was. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! Flowers
