Hi! My dd looks awful! She is very pale, but has no signs of illness - no temperature, no cold, eating for Britain etc.
However, her face particularly around her mouth is spotty (like proper teenager spots), and under her eyes seem to be red and rashy looking. She isn't itching, and as I say doesn't seem to be ill.
Any thoughts??
I felt so awful dropping her off this a.m. but as I said she is not ill.

my ds had a similar ash and it turned out to be impertigo - but he was ill with a cold before habd abd the gp said that is what led to it - dont know if you always have a virus before impetigo, but he rash sounds the same and he wasnt ill or itchy at all

Yes, my ds had exactly the same as missmapp's ds....LOVE your name btw missmapp, is it from the books I think it is???

My ds had a nasty virus then just as we thought he'd shaken it all off, he went to bed one evening with a bit of a blotchy face, and was up in the morning with these spots which looked at first like whiteheads. We got him to the dr that same morning and she diagnosed impetigo and gave ds antibiotic cream which sorted it out very quickly. I was relieved it knocked it on the head so well as when I was a Social Worker I saw a baby with impetigo that hadn't been dealt with and the face was all blistered and painful-looking but it's everso easily sorted and needn't get full-blown like that.

Did it look like acne? This is what dd looks ike around her mouth and nose, but under her eyes (where my eye bags are!) just looks pink and a bit dry.
The only other thing I thought was that on Friday night, she got hold of some eye shadow which dh cleaned off with an Olay Daily Facial wipe - I wonder if this could have caused an allergy? So hope it isn't impetigo as the stuff I have been reading about scares the pants off me!

it did look a bit like acne, it was around his mouth and on his cheeks, and a bit under his chin and it just looked like little white spots that needed squeezing!

If it is Impetigo, really don't worry! My ds' healed up within two days, three at most. It wasn't bad at all though I'm sure the early visit to the dr helped cos we got the cream on him the same day the spots came.

see how she looks when you pick her up, then get her straight to the dr if you think it's no better.

But honestly, it's nothing to worry about!

Yep, my ds spots were like acne and, like sunnysideup - thanks btw, yes the name is from the books - ilove them! - started as a red rash. Anti-biotics cleared it up in a few days but he did have a couple of days off nursery as it is infectious. May be worth getting checked by the gp - ours started on a sat so didnt go to gp until mon and it was much worse by then. I t may be an allergy, but worht getting checked out

I meant to say, our doctor did umm and ahh about whether it was impetigo, I guess because we were quick in taking him - I'm sure it's easier to make a diagnosis two or three days down the line when symptoms are more obvious, but if the dr doesn't mention it, bring it up, say "I was concerned it might be impetigo"..if they suspect it is they should give anti-bots for it.

It is impetigo, so thank you sooo much for bringing it to my attention. They have given her penicillin (oral)

Just one thing I am not sure about. Can I still go out with dd? We are due to go to the theatre tomorrow afternoon and I would hate to miss it.

Also, some websites so no school for 48 hours after treatment has started, and some say a week!

What do you think?

we were told to keep him away from nursery for 49 hrs after the antibiotics were started and did just that! He was fine. I think its only infectious if you touch it, so theatre should be ok - its dark in there aswell!!( i know ds looked terrible when he had his!)

I was told 48 hours and it is very contagious but only with contact direct or idnriect (ie towels) so hygiene and avoiding contact with others is pretty important. How likely is she to want to say, share a bag of sweets with a friend ?

I would go to the theatre if it was me I think, if it was a family trip. If it was a group of 10 kids then maybe not because they just get so close to eachother and it is very infectious.

Our GP told us that when the spots had healed over it wouldn't be infectious any more, certainly no school for 48 hours I would think, but she is probably on hols already!

oops mean 48 hrs!!( mind u in reality it was about 46 but dont tell the nursery!

It's just me and dd going to the theatre, so should be ok. She is at preschool still - ours runs 52 weeks of the year. She is due in on Friday as I am working.
I have emailed my cousin too, as he is a GP - v handy!!
