Yellow gunky eye...

DS(2) has a cold, plus he's teething and now has one eye that's oozing yellow pus. Am using cotton wool and water to keep it clear, but is this conjunctivitis or not? He's had it before, but it wasn't as bad and cleared really quickly. I'll take him to the Dr if it's as bad tomorrow, but am curious as he's got his nursery party on Tuesday and obviously I can't take him if it's contageous.

Am sure there's lots of you out there who know..

Yes try pressing the bump where the tear duct seems to be to get any stuff out that is stuck in there.

You may find if you try a pharmacy you don't need a presciption and you could start today.

dd2 also has same problem , is there an over the counter product that will treat it at 17wks old ? Poor things all snuffly and coughing. Must be doing the rounds eh smee.

In our playgroup if a child has a weeping eye that is looking "infected" - ie not clear but gunky and yellow - we would ask them to stay away until it had cleared. Obv. if they had visited their GP, were on medication and told that it was no longer infectious then they would be more than welcome.
Hope he is feeling better soon. My youngest has a heavy cold too - it is horrible, isn?t it? I am wondering about a GP appt. as she has started to complain her ear hurts, poor little thing.

Mighty quick replies, thank you all. I agree, LemonTart. Will take him to Dr tomorrow and hope he'll get the all clear for the party. Poor thing, it's his first one and Santa's coming and everything

Melsy, my other half's out and about and is going to try and find a chemist that's open to ask if there's anything. Will let you know if he finds one.

My ds had conjunctivitis last week and we had to keep him off nursery. We got him the Optrex Infected Eye drops .. which contain the same thing as the prescription drops you get from the dr. It is pretty strong though! Seems to have done the trick for my ds ... but use sparingly.

If it is conjunctivitis the eye ball is normally red and blodshot. I bathe my lo's eyes in boiled cooled water and a little salt find it helps. It is normally sinus related.

I would guess it is related to his cold and not contagious.
