Infected wisdom tooth - will it clear up by itself ?

My wisdom tooth is giving me gip. sore, inflamed and I can't open my mouth properly - suspected infection as I have had this before. It has been like this for a week or so. Have an appointment at the dentist next week but not sure I can wait until then. To try and get an emergency appointment will mean all sorts of faffing around trying to arrange childcare while I go. Does anyone have any short term remedies, to at least keep me going until next Wed ? Or should I get it seen to now ?

Sounds nasty - I think you should probably get it seen to asap as infected teeth can cause all sorts of problems.

Nurofen and a dentist asap, it's only going to get worse.

I used to get this on my wisdom tooth. I usually had to get antibiotics to get rid of swelling and pain. Clove oil is good for temporary relief (chemist)

ok thanks all. Have just been in touch with the dentist and there is an evening emergency service I can ring, which is great because DP will be home by then.

Hope they can give me some tabs and I can get it sorted out before Christmas. Wasn't looking forward to an alcohol free one !
