Pulmonary fibrosis - anything that can be done?

Posting for another family member - her MIL has had pneumonia, and is now having a lot of difficulty breathing due to fibrosis, currently being kept in an induced coma to help oxygen uptake. Has anyone had any experience with this (good or bad - I'll filter any information before it gets to her or her husband and be kind)? She may be too old to be considered for a transplant, but I was wondering if the fibrosis itself ever goes down.

My son has cystic fibrosis and what I understand is no, the thickening and scarring is irreversible, they can treat the inflammation and infection that comes with it though. Sorry to hear about your MIL.
