Blocked Ear not wax any ideas oh wise Mnetters

Got a blocked ear at the weekend. Did the Olive Oil stuff no difference.

Dr receptionist said ear wax and booked me into have ear irrigation next week. I couldn't bare the discomfort so went for private micro-suction today. Wax removed but still blocked ear and little hearing and tinnitus. Also mico-suction made me very dizzy. (Very embarrasing lying on the floor until I felt better!)

i am tying to get a Drs appointment but none until the 11th Dec but will try again in the morning.

Any ideas as to what it may be? It is horrible (or I could just be a wuss!)

Have you had a cold recently? It could be blocked sinuses. My mum gets this, poor thing and it really drives her mad.

micro suction is actually better than syringing, less damaging to the delicate skin.

Yes I had hoped it would not make me dizzy but unfortunately it did and wax is not the cause of the hearing loss - so annoying and feeling very sorry for myself

I would be tempted to self refer to an ENT as an emergency, just incase it is some sort of virus that has caused hearing loss. If it was and you used steroids it may be reversed, but you need to act quickly. I do not want to alarm you, but it is strange that there is no other apparent reason for the hearing loss. Did you subject yourself to loud noise at the weekend?

Are you in London? If so, you may be able to present to the ENT hospital as an emergency, but I am sure there are specialist hospitals elsewhere.

I am alert to these things as I made a mad dash, out of hours, to an eye hospital when I was warned by 111, I could lose my sight unless I got attention quickly. In the event, it was fine, but they said they were pleased that I had gone as it was better to be safe than sorry. And I had calmly thought things were just a bit 'odd' with my vision and had dangerously left it a day or two before seeking treatment.

I am out in the sticks I'm afraid nearest walk in centre is 60 miles away :(

You could try 111 and see what they say? If not, try presenting yourself to A&E, say you are really worried about the hearing loss and do not want to take any chances. 60 miles? That is what I call 'in the sticks'!

Any other symptoms? Was there a popping sound at the time you became deaf?

are there drs at the microsuction place?

I had something similar, it was an inner ear infection. Had to have a long course of antibiotics and it only went right at the end of the course.

I hope it is the same as you laundry and antibiotics cure it - just got to get that Dr's appointment first

JustNo popping before I went deaf but a bit of a blocked feeling the day before but it went away. Yep we are out in the sticks it is usually lovely but sometimes not great

Typically these things always happen when lots is going on - I have a foster bitch in whelp at the minute so can't really go out. I hope waiting for the Dr tomorrow is the ok thing to do.

Sounds as if it could be Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.I had a blocked ear which didn't clear after syringing and this it what was diagnosed. I had a course of antibiotics and a steroid nasal spray and it did eventually clear but took about 6 weeks or so.
